It's Thursday night and we have the season premieres of CSI and the Office, and as with Tuesday, I'm going to stick most of this "behind the cut" to keep folks from being spoiled.
So CSI was up first for me, and honestly, CSI has gone from one of those shows I make sure to watch every week to one of those shows I just watch when I don't have anything better to do. I like William Petersen a lot, but the show seems to have gotten more full of the personal drama than the procedural aspect. For that reason, I think tonight's episode was somewhat lacking for me. Last year's Miniature Killer storyline was pretty compelling, but the resolution here depended a lot on you caring about Sara Sidle and quite frankly, I don't like her at all. You know why? Because Grissom belongs with Lady Heather, that's why! Hrmph.
The bigger problem with this episode for me is that it wasn't really very interesting. It was all very straightforward, you didn't have any reason think that Sara was not going to survive, or that they wouldn't find her. The way it was shot, in flashback, was a good choice, but really, it just fell flat. Hopefully next week's episode, which I'm guessing is going to be a more by-the-book mystery, will be more to my taste.
On the other hand, the Office was, as usual, excellent. I'm not sure what the best part was -- Jim and Pam being horribly cute (their final admittance that they were actually dating was understated and still priceless), or Michael trying to have a fundraiser to cure a disease that's already been cured, or Dwight euthanizing Angela's poor cat. In addition, though we got some more Creed craziness ("you make a lot more money as a leader"), Dwight asking Meredith if he should unplug her, and Michael puking his guts out after "carbo loading" on fettucine alfredo. I forsee an interesting season, I think, especially if Jan continues to be crazy jealous about Michael (and I'm pretty sure that was foreshadowed with her craziness in last season's finale and her reaction to Pam accidentally walking in on Michael in this episode). I just hope they can keep it up this season.
