A long overdue update....
So it's been over three weeks since my last entry, and that's pretty unacceptable, at least for me, so I'm going to try to bring everyone up to date with how I'm doing and what I'm up to since I got back. In short, things are going pretty well, I'm recovering nicely from the surgery, but I'm not completely back up to 100% quite yet.
I've been back home since the Thursday after I got back, and I've been
getting a lot better over the course of the last few weeks. That first
weekend after I got back and Marc came down, I felt pretty bad for him
since I was still very sore and had trouble just sitting down in one
place for a reasonable period of time. We had a relaxing weekend
though at least, not doing much at all and just sitting around the
house watching movies or whatever. I was hoping to see him again
today, but the doctor's appointment I had scheduled for today in
Chicago got moved, so it looks like I probably won't see him until he
comes down next weekend.
By now, however, I don't have much pain really, just some soreness and aching, and it doesn't really bother me except at night, when I still pop a couple Tylenol. I am sleeping much better lately, thankfully; for the first few weeks, I couldn't really sleep more than a few hours at a time, which kind of sucked. I still feel like I wish I could sleep more, but I'm getting six or seven hours of sleep at a stretch now, and that's pretty comparable to what I used to get. Strenuous physical activity is still kind of painful though; I definitely can't run without some pain, and lifting heavy stuff is pretty wince-inducing, but I can tell it is getting better; I suspect in another week or two I'll be most of the way back to normal.
I've been doing a fair bit of writing while I've been at home, though a lot of it hasn't really gone anywhere, unfortunately; I'm a bit upset with that, as it feels like I am wasting this time watching a lot of movies and reading and playing games, but on the other hand, I suspect stressing out wouldn't have been very good for my recovery early on. I'm going to try to focus with the last couple weeks I have here and do a little more work, but I've noticed I'm already starting to get a little antsy about not being back at my "real" job. I suspect I may try going back to work a little early if I can; unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding I had about my postoperative instructions, I suspect that's a little further off than I had thought, but I still might be able to get back a week early or so.
I have been watching a lot of movies (for a good part of my day, that's all I can do), and I'll probably be posting a few capsule reviews over the next few days, and I have some thoughts on the presidential campaign and current events I'd like to get off my chest as well, so I suspect there's more posts coming up in the near future. For now, though, I just wanted to make a post to let people know I was doing fine and that so far, everything has been going pretty well. Today also marks the one month mark until I leave for Iceland, so I'm getting pretty excited about that too. I've already promised to take lots of pictures (and hopefully better than the ones from GenCon), so you can all look forward to that.
